With EU Support IOM Boosts Georgia’s Document Examination Capacities
On 1 August, IOM concluded the procurement of advanced document inspection equipment for the Forensic-Criminalistic Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. This equipment, procured from the UK-based firm “Foster & Freeman”, comes in addition to similar tools that the EU and IOM donated to the Georgian authorities at previous occasions over the past 5 years.
A representative of the British firm travelled to Georgia to oversee the installation of the sophisticated equipment and deliver training to the team of 8 document examination experts in the Forensic-Criminalistic Department. This procurement will be a firm boost for the capacities of secondary document inspection in Georgia and allow law enforcement to remain on top of the latest trends in forgery of travel and breeder documents and provide a solid contribution to strengthening of the borders of Georgia and combating document forgery.
This procurement took place in the context of the project “Sustaining Border Management and Migration Governance in Georgia”, funded by the EU and implemented by IOM from 2017 until 2020.
