Invisible in Plain Sight - IOM Marks World Anti-Trafficking Day
30 July is the World Day against Trafficking in Persons. To mark this day the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Migration Agency, Mission in Georgia officially launched its “Invisible in Plain Sight” counter-trafficking campaign in Kutaisi. The campaign is an art-installation, telling the real stories of trafficking victims. It will be placed in Gabashvili Park until 3 August.
“The Invisible in Plain Sight” campaign is implemented by IOM jointly with the State Fund for Protection and Assistance of (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking and in close cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. The campaign is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. To coordinate the counter-trafficking efforts and share the implemented and planned activities in the field, IOM used the opportunity to organize a working group meeting with the agencies active in the field of counter-trafficking and child protection in Imereti Region.
The “Invisible in Plain Sight” campaign was first introduced by IOM Ukraine in 2014. The Campaign was extended to Belarus and Moldova in 2016 and 2017 respectively, as the best regional counter-trafficking initiative. In 2018 the campaign visited Tbilisi and Batumi and on 30 July 2019 we brought “Invisible in Plain Sight” to Kutaisi.
