IOM Supports Georgia’s Revenue Service in Honing Border Control Procedures

Over the week 23-27 September 2019, Latvian experts travelled to Batumi to sit down with their Georgian colleagues from the Revenue Service (RS) of the Ministry of Finance and go through the EU standards of border control procedures as concerns sanitarian and phyto-sanitarian issues.

The Latvian experts from the Food and Veterinary Service will conduct two practical training courses for first-line officers of the RS working on Border Inspection Posts in both western and eastern Georgia. After these two courses the RS and Latvian experts will identify qualified specialists from among the RS trainees for a more comprehensive training-of-trainers. The end result of this process will be the elaboration of a training manual and a roll-out of peer training courses to reach all RS officers who deal with controlling food and livestock coming into and leaving the country.

This activity takes place as part of the EU-funded project “Sustaining Border Management and Migration Governance in Georgia”, implemented by IOM, which runs for 3 years until November 2020.
