IOM’s Batumi Field Office Meets with Muslim Women from Adjara Region
On June 9, IOM Batumi Field Office representatives met with Muslim women community in Batumi. The meeting that was held in a “Dream City” settlement and was attended by 15 women who have a history of labour migration abroad.
Attendants shared their migration experiences and stories, which mainly focused on challenges encountered by them and received comprehensive information about emigration. IOM Georgia representatives spoke about benefits of safe and regular migration and provided comprehensive information about documents needed for safe and regular migration to Schengen countries. Information was also shared about risks, which might accompany irregular migration, including trafficking in human beings. At the end of the meeting, the participants pointed out the need to hold such informative and awareness raising meetings for male population of Dream City Settlement, since they are mostly involved in seasonal migration to Turkey.
The meeting was organized under the EU-funded “Border and Migration Management Action for Georgia (BMMAG)”.
