Migration Data Management Workshop Brings Together Migration Data Experts and Users in Tbilisi
International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to Georgia, in close cooperation with the State Commission on Migration Issues (SCMI) of Georgia organized the Migration Data Workshop on 24-25 June 2019 in Tbilisi. The workshop was funded by IOM Development Fund and aimed to bring together migration data experts and users with diverse backgrounds and outlook. The main objective of this event as envisioned under the project was to continue development of the Unified Migration Data Analysis System and make it operational by the end of 2019.
IOM and SCMI selected and invited experts for experience sharing from IOM Global Migration Data Analysis Center (GMDAC), UK National Statistical Bureau and Danish Immigration Office. Migration data management models in Georgia, UK, and Denmark were introduced as well as migration data standards and experiences in European Union - methods on statistics, data collection and quality control and migration reports.
As Georgia is preparing for evaluation of its National Migration Strategy 2016 - 2020 and drafting a new 10-year strategic document, this workshop was intended as a preliminary discussion on the big picture of migration data governance and key stakeholders as well as more narrow aspects of data processing and necessary human resources.
