Introduction to new trends in the field of document fraud and advanced techniques of document inspection will help border authorities of Georgia strengthen their skills in identification of imposters and travellers with forged documents, contributing to Georgia’s border security.

With the support of the European Union, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) continues to strengthen the skills of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and border authorities in the field of document verification and fraud detection.

Georgian Government has increased its efforts in detecting fraudulent and counterfeit document at border – both on entry to Georgia and on departure – to prevent transit of travellers with fraudulent documents to EU countries. In response to the request of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia IOM invited Dutch expert to deliver a targeted training course, steering away from generic document fraud training course to a more focused programme. 

The official opening of the training took place on 14 February in Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel, Tbilisi at 9:00. The course was implemented on 14-15 February in Tbilisi and on 17-18 February in Batumi and was attended by Patrol Police Department staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and Customs Department staff of the Revenue Service.

This action is part of the project Support to Integrated Border Management in Georgia under EU4 Security, Accountability and Fight against Crime in Georgia SAFE, implemented by IOM, in the areas of migration and border management and is complemented by other comprehensive procurement and training activities that will ensure the strengthening of Georgia’s border protection capacities in compliance with the benchmarks of the EU visa-free travel suspension mechanism.
