IOM and Administration of Samgori District Sign the Memorandum of Cooperation
On February 22, 2023, IOM Georgia Chief of Mission - Sanja Celebic Lukovac and Gamgebeli of the Samgori Administrative Unit of the Tbilisi - Kakha Samkharadze signed a memorandum of cooperation on the creation and operation of a community revitalization project, "Household Service Center", tailored to the needs of migrants returning from emigration and the population of the returning community, in the Varketili massive.
The household service center should create services accessible to local residents in the field of repair and construction: electricity, plumbing, sewage, repair of household appliances and others; enhance entrepreneurial and professional competencies for beginners and/or unemployed artisans living in the community and increase their access to the necessary tools/ equipment and create an opportunity for the community members to rent the repair and construction equipment/tools at an affordable price, to meet various household needs.
The community initiative is implemented within the framework of the project funded by the International Organization for Migration Development Fund (IDF) - "Sustainable Reintegration and Community Strengthening: A Pilot Initiative in Migrant Returning Communities".
The signatory parties also talked about the sustainable reintegration of migrants who returned to their homeland, important role of the local self-government in this process and plans for future cooperation in the field of reintegration of returned migrants.
