IOM Georgia Chief of Mission Meets with Mayor of Batumi
On June 16, International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission – Sanja Celebic Lukovac met with the Mayor of Batumi – Archil Chikovani.
The meeting was of introductory nature. IOM Georgia Chief of Mission spoke about the past, current and future activities of the Mission. The two sides discussed situation of vulnerable migrants residing in Adjara and the challenges, which they might be facing.
During the meeting, Sanja Celebic Lukovac and Archil Chikovani touched upon the living conditions of Ukrainian migrants residing in Batumi and spoke about general and seasonal trends of migration – as IOM is ready to support the city in overcoming migration-related challenges. Attitude of Georgians towards migrants and migration was also discussed.
Mr. Chikovani received comprehensive information about IOM’s ongoing campaign – “We Choose Tolerance – We Have More in Common”, launched by IOM on June 13 with an aim to counter xenophobia, promote migrants’ rights and raise awareness on the importance of diversity and positive impact that migration and migrants bring.
